Betty Butter is a tongue-twister written by Carolyn Wells.
It was originally titled "The Butter Betty Bought." By the middle of
the 20th century, it had become part of the Mother Goose collection of nursery
rhymes….MCC thought about a gender neutral …’batter’…a terminology to be used
instead of batsman….good they gave a thought about it. It does not sound right
to my ears….A natural evolution in the cricketing language. When we accept
teacher, doctor, human being, actor, houseman ship, and yeoman… anchor…then why
do we need a change?
